Experiential learning program in genomics and biotechnology This program targets 9-12 high school science teachers. It is a 10-day workshop designed to help teachers develop some baseline knowledge of genomics and biotechnology and to subsequently incorporate this into their science curriculum. It is designed for teachers who have had very little exposure to these technologies particularly those who serve disadvantaged and rural institutions.

A Portable Document Format (.pdf) file with information about how you can apply and register is here:   2002 Genomics and Biotechnology Experiential Learning Program (PDF | 123KB) .

The activities in the experiential learning program are designed to increase the High School science and Math teachers familiarity with contemporary techniques and issues in genomics and molecular biology. The workshop combines theoretical, laboratory, and computer work with team projects and lectures by guest speakers. Workshop materials and activities can be integrated as modules into existing science courses. Our objective is to hopefully help the teachers, most of whom may not have had a formal training or course in genomics or molecular biology, to develop a positive view as well as the potential harm of these revolutionary technologies and disciplines.
