Growing up: Katie grew up raising chickens and pigs on her family farm. She loved to be involved in agriculture in any way possible and was an officer in her high school FFA chapter.
Extracurriculars:
- Poultry club at Virginia Tech- President
- Virginia Tech Collegiate Young Farmers- Treasurer
- Undergraduate Research Assistant in Dr. Persia’s Poultry Nutrition Lab
After Graduation: Katie hopes to work for a poultry corporation where she can get hands-on experience and network with others in the industry. At the same time, she wishes to help her family build up their farming operation in Rockbridge County.
Favorite Part about APSC: My favorite part of APSC is getting to focus on topics that I am very passionate about while being able to gather hands-on experiences that would be limited anywhere else. It is incredible to be a part of a major that is so active in animal research and is constantly finding ways to improve and develop agriculture.
