Accessibility by air

Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA) is the closest airport to Virginia Tech.  Connections can be made through several East Coast hubs including Atlanta (ATL), New York LaGuardia (LGA), Philadelphia (PHI), Charlotte (CLT), Washington Dulles (IAD), in addtion to Chicago O'Hare (ORD).

Local transportation from Roanoke to Blacksburg

  • The SmartWay Bus from Roanoke-Blacksburg airport to Blacksburg is only $4 each way - it runs every hour from 6 am to 7 pm, and the trip takes about an hour.
  • Rental Cars are also available at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional airport, VT campus is a 40 mile/40 minute drive from the airport.

Charlotte International Airport, in Charlotte, NC, has direct flights from and to Europe and is about 2 hrs and 45 min from Blacksburg by car.

Dulles International Airport, outside of Washington DC, has direct flights from and to Europe, Asia, and South America, and is about 3 hrs and 45 min from Blacksburg by car.

Accessibility by road

Blacksburg is located just off of Interstate-81, one of the major highways for the eastern United States.

Conference attendees who reside outside the United States may need to apply for a VISA at the American Embassy, consulate, or other visa issuing office in their country of origin. Please begin your VISA application process as soon as possible, as applications may take time to process.
